“I love it,” Lazy Susan told us in an exclusive interview shortly after her win.
“I love that I just won this competition because you don’t get taxed on winnings in Australia. So I’m taking that $50,000, and none of the other queens are taking any of it. Thank you so much!”
Lazy Susan’s win came down to competing against beloved Sydney queen Vybe and Brisbane’s Mandy Moobs.
On taking out the prize, Lazy Susan noted, “This is insane. I really am being quite frank when I tell you I did not expect this to happen.”
Lazy Susan’s victory marks the culmination of a whirlwind journey on the show.
Reflecting on joining the cast, she described it as a surreal experience: “Joining Season 4 was a thrill. I would say a dream come true, except most of my dreams are about being in very long hallways with strange-looking men with tiny hats. But this was like a dream come true where you can win money at the end.”
On preparing for the competition:
“Preparing for Drag Race Down Under was the most exhausting three and a half weeks of my life,” she revealed.
“Part of me will never recover. There is still glitter etched into every part of the carpet and my lungs at home.”
Highs and lows of the season:
Among the highlights of the season, Lazy Susan fondly recalled her unique accomplishments: “Winning three times was amazing. Winning a dancing challenge is probably the stupidest thing that’s ever happened.”
Not every moment was glitter and glamour, however. One of the season’s most emotional moments for Lazy Susan was seeing two of her close friends, Max Drag Queen and Brenda Bressed, face off in the bottom two.
“The worst day on set was when Max and Brenda were both in the bottom. My two Melbourne sisters. I was a wreck. Everything just hit, and I was side of stage sobbing, thinking, ‘No matter what, one of my sisters is going home.’ It was very hectic.
Favourite Lewk:
Throughout the competition, Lazy Susan’s signature looks dazzled the judges and viewers alike.
She expressed particular pride in her wet dress look.
“I love just covering myself in water, it cuts down laundry, which is great.”
Looking ahead, the latest Drag Superstar’s calendar is already filling up.
“If you would like to see more Lazy Susan, I’d like you to please go back to your psychiatrist and up your dosage”, she joked.
“But in the meantime, you can catch me in the UK at DragCon UK or on the Divas of Drag Race Down Under tour in March. Please, we need your money.”
