New York Yankees vs. Pittsburgh Pirates: Max Fried vs. Bailey Falter

We’ll get our first game action look at the Yankees’ big signing tonight.

While the Yankees’ offseason was partially headlined by one notable departure, the team also made some notable additions, headlined by pitcher Max Fried. Today, we will get out first look at that addition.

Tonight, Fried will make his 2025 spring debut and play his first game of any sort in a Yankees’ uniform, as the Yankees host the Pirates in Tampa. Over the offseason, the Yankees inked Fried to an eight-year, $218 million contract, bolstering their rotation in the aftermath of losing Juan Soto. Fried has been an excellent pitcher since debuting in 2017, and has been an All-Star in 2022 and 2024, the last two seasons which he’s been fully healthy. There’s a reason why the Yankees were so interested in him, and we may see that on display tonight.

Besides Fried, the Yankees are funning out several notables, including the captain: Aaron Judge. All nine in the starting lineup tonight either will be, or have an outside shot at making the team’s Opening Day roster.

For the Pirates, Bailey Falter will get the start on the mound, while Oneil Cruz headlines their lineup.

We hope you’ll join us in the game thread for all tonight’s action!
