RuPaul’s Drag Race star Jasmine Kennedie has shared her harrowing experience being ‘harassed and followed home’ by a Trump supporter on the New York subway ‘because [she is] trans’.
Jasmine Kennedie first shot to fame on the fourteenth season of RuPaul’s Drag Race (2022), during which she moved viewers and her fellow queens by coming out as trans in one of companion show Untucked‘s most moving moments ever.
Since then, Kennedie has gone from strength to strength as an out and proud trans woman, taking her fans along for the ride – but in a video shared to Instagram by the star, she has warned followers of the dangers of living authentically in “Trump’s America”.
Posted to Kennedie’s Instagram page on 14 April, the video shows a man attempting to physically grab the 25-year-old’s phone after she started filming and telling her, “Trump is still your daddy.”
Further clips interspersed with Kennedie talking to the camera to share her story show how the man “got in her face” and “wouldn’t stop following her.”
As Kennedie explained to camera, once she started filming, the man backed off and “cowered”, with clips showing him saying, “I don’t have a problem” after provoking Kennedie. He later joined her on her train carriage, where several bystanders backed Kennedie up, telling him to leave her alone.
Kennedie’s caption reads, “Last night on the way home from work I was harassed and followed by a man all because I am a trans woman. In Trump’s America, trans women are being targeted with hate and they are trying to stoke fear into us.
She added, “I will never allow someone to make me coward, make me feel insignificant. I am PROUD OF WHO I AM!! Nothing will stop me from living my life. TRANS LIVES MATTER!!! Remember to stay safe yall and never let fear stop you from living your life authentically.”
In the video, she stated, “I was waiting for the 110 train last night at the Oculus (New York’s terminal station at the World Trade Center),” clarifying that she had a “full face” of drag makeup on while speaking on the phone to her boyfriend.
“This guy randomly decided to sit very, very, very close to me,” she continued. “This man starts to call me the f-slur, [saying] ‘F**k you’, ‘This is Trump’s America.’
“He then went on saying, ‘Trump’s your daddy, Trump’s your f**king daddy,’ and I was very uncomfortable, but at the same time, I was not going to back down.”
She told fans, “These people want us to be scared to live our lives, these people want us to feel as though we should be in fear of them, but I was not going to let that happen. I told this man to his face, ‘Yes I am a trans woman. Do you have a problem with that?’
“And he had the nerve to say, ‘You have a d*ck,’ and I said, ‘Yes and it’s probably bigger than yours.’”
The RuPaul’s Drag Race star added, “In Trump’s America, they don’t want to listen to facts,” sharing that the man also told her she should be deported, despite being a US citizen.
“This is a message to all trans [siblings] out there,” she added. “Do not let them stoke fear in you. They don’t expect you to stand up, but when you do, they back down.”
As Jasmine Kennedie said at the end of the video in reference to the legendary Roxxxy Andrews, “You can’t handle the doll.”
The comments of her post have been filled with messages of support, including those from her Drag Race sisters like Kerri Colby and Daya Betty.
Trump’s administration has continued to target trans individuals since he entered office again in early 2025, with the president recently comparing supporters of trans youth to child abusers.
