It’s been approximately two months since Todd Chrisley and Julie Chrisley were released from prison. And the couple are giving insight into what their life is like after being behind bars. According to them, life is “rougher” after getting out.

A jury convicted Todd and Julie of tax evasion and fraud charges in 2023, and they spent 28 months in prison. Their daughter Savannah Chrisley fought for their release. In May, she successfully secured a presidential pardon for her parents and brought them home.

However, Todd and Julie aren’t instantly bouncing back. They were in shock right after coming home and adjusting to life outside of prison. They talked a bit more about it on their newly returned podcast, Chrisley Confessions 2.0.

“I’ve actually talked to a few of the women that I was in prison with that they’re already home,” Julie said during their July 23rd episode. “We all have this general consensus that … it’s kind of weird to even say it.”

“Life is rougher than prison life,” Todd confirmed. He realized that it was “a sad thing to say,” but that it was true.

“It’s so horrific, the conditions that you’re there for, but that’s from a physical standpoint,” he admitted. “But from an emotional and psychological standpoint, it is harder dealing with day to day.”

Julie explained that part of it was knowing that in prison they “don’t have any control” and that there is “very little you can do.” That changed her way of thinking when it came to life behind bars.

“People told me when I first got there, that you can’t live out there and in here at the same time because it will literally drive you crazy,” she shared. “And it’s true. The longer you are in there, the more removed you become to the world.”

The couple admit that rediscovering their normal routine is “crazy” and it’s challenging getting back into the swing of running a house and making sure everything is done. Most of all, they both admit that sleeping has been the biggest difficulty.

“I went to prison for 28 months and I never had trouble sleeping,” Todd shared. “Maybe because I wasn’t fighting with everybody. The Chrisley Clan, they’re the ones who have kept me awake all these years.”

Julie agreed that she loves her children and family, but prison forced her to focus only on herself. Being at home means adjusting her way of thinking again.
